Microsoft has recently made changes to the Home Use Program benefit. This affects UA faculty and staff only.
1) Ability to purchase both versions of Office:
Beginning November 1st, 2016, Software Assurance customer employees who are eligible* to buy Office for their personal devices through the HUP benefit will be allowed to purchase one (1) copy of Office Professional Plus 2016 AND one (1 ) copy of Office Home and Business 2016 for Mac. Previously, employees could purchase only one version of Office when using the HUP benefit, and can now purchase both. The purpose of this change is to increase the value of Software Assurance for Microsoft customers by allowing their employees the ability to work from multiple devices-leading to increased productivity and reduced help desk and training costs.
2) Change to Employee Authentication and Program Codes:
By default, employees are no longer required to enter a program code to validate their eligibility. Most organizations prefer to only use the email domain as validation as it reduces escalations to IT departments from their employees. The program code requirement can be reinstated within 24 hours upon email request from the SA Benefit Administrator or the HUP Benefits Contact. Please send requests to VLSC Support with your agreement number and program code.
HUP Program Updates Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
If an employee purchases both Office Professional Plus 2016 and Office Home and Business 2016 for Mac, will two (2 ) licenses be deducted from their organization's HUP benefit pool?
No, if an employee purchases both Office Professional Plus 2016 and Office Home and Business 2016 for Mac, only one (1) HUP license will be deducted from their organization's agreement.
Does this qualify for employees that already purchased one version of HUP?
Yes. Employees that already purchased one (1) copy of either products using a HUP license, will now be eligible to purchase a copy of other products without using an additional HUP license from their employer's agreement.
What is the price for each product?
Office can be purchased for PCs and Mac for the price of $9.95 USD** each.
Is there an easy way that SA Benefit Administrators can share this change with their employees?
Yes, please have them review the options for customized marketing and communication material on the Share the HUP benefit with your company tab on the HUP Resource and Marketing center.
Where can employees find resources to help them purchase Office through HUP?
To reduce escalations to organizations' IT departments, Microsoft has made many resources available to help employees self-navigate the HUP process. For HUP questions, employees can reference the Step-by-Step employee purchasing and download guide (found on the Activate and Use your HUP benefit tab) as well as the HUP FAQ. If they need further support, Microsoft customer service has a fully trained HUP team that can help employees directly. These customer service agents can be reached through the HUP Customer Service-Contact Us page.
Where should SA Benefit Administrator's go if they are having trouble with their HUP account in VLSC or the Microsoft Business Center?
Please contact Volume Licensing Support Center to troubleshoot any issues with VLSC or Microsoft Business Center.
What are reasons that our organization may want to use a program code?
If you would like to require the program code for validation for any reason including the three below, please send requests to VLSC Support with your agreement number and program code.
• If you are part of an organization that does not offer the HUP benefit to all users with the approved email domains, we recommend requiring the program code for authentication (example: schools where faculty and students have the same domain).
• If your organization has listed the same domain for more than one agreement with an active HUP benefit, your employees will be required to enter the program code below to specify the agreement from which the HUP license will be taken.
• If you have an active HUP account in the Microsoft Business Center (MPSA agreements), your employees will be required to use the program code for HUP.
*The Home Use Program is a Software Assurance benefit available to Microsoft volume licensing customers with active Software Assurance coverage on their Office applications. Employees who use the covered licenses at work are eligible to purchase these Office applications for use on a personal device during the term of their employment. This temporary license expires with the employer's Software Assurance coverage, or upon termination of employment with the covered organization.
**US pricing (local currency pricing available).
